Safety on a bush holiday:

General safety tips:
If you are on a tour or safari your risks are minimal due to the guide operators knowing exactly where the high danger risk areas are. However, when traveling alone or in a small group you need to be aware and try to get to know the area in which you are traveling well. And always try to travel with somebody you know and not alone.
TIP: try to know as much as you can with regards to the happenings in the country you are in, check the local news and ask the locals about relevant political topics.
City Safety:
Never trust a stranger. The larger cities are high crime area’s with respect to the smaller/rural cities. Car-jacking, pick-pocketing and theft are major in areas such as Durban city center, Johannesburg City center ect.  Again, one should get to know the area, never walk alone at night and ask the locals were the safer places are.
Be aware at all times.
Safety on Roads:
ARRIVE ALIVE! Every peak season the roads take the lives of many, no matter where in the world you may be. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Evan though south Africa has a minimum amount of decent public transport services there are private taxi services and the best way to go after a night out is to have a sober designated driver that you can trust.
Always drive slowly, especially in rural areas, as cows and other live stock do enjoy a “chill out” on the roads.
Pot holes are also another issue, mainly at night. It is good advice again, to dive slowly with your lights on and to concentrate.
And don’t forget to wear your seat ALL THE TIME!!
Safety on safari:
FOLLOW YOUR GUIDES INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL TIMES. He knows the area better than you may think you do.
Do not put yourself or the other tourists in danger. Follow the signs and obey them.
Even though the animals may look “cute” do not try to touch or feed them… I’m sure you like your fingers exactly where they are.
If you are partaking in a self drive safari then you must be aware and try and know as much as you can on the nature reserve.

But the most important thing of all is to…

ENJOY OUR AMAZING COUNTRY
South Africa is one of the most diverse countries… we have an array of different animals, flora and fauna. And our many different cultures are just the beginning of learning the true African spirit.
